One of the best things about the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is that we are democratic. While the pastor makes many of the decisions about worship content, the decisions about nearly every other aspect are made by the Elders of the church, men and women who are democratically elected by the congregation. Further, while our pastor is responsible for crisis care and will often be the person you see visiting you in the hospital, we don’t look to our pastor for all of our needs. We look to our Deacons, men and women also elected by the congregation, for more basic pastoral care and for organizing things like meals when appropriate.
